// What Is Speed Training
Speed Training at Athletes Acceleration Carmel
At our Carmel facility, we break down sprint mechanics for athletes across Hamilton County—Carmel, Zionsville, Fishers, Westfield—into their component phases: start, acceleration, transition, and top-end velocity. Using laser timing systems and professional turf, we identify specific mechanical inefficiencies and rebuild them through sprint training, plyometrics, and resisted sprinting.
Most young athletes have never been taught how to run. They rely on natural ability, but that only gets them so far. Our Speed Training program breaks down the sprint into its component phases—start, acceleration, transition, and top-end velocity—and rebuilds each one with precision. Through our athlete analysis, we identify the mechanical breakdowns that cost your athlete tenths of a second. Those tenths are the difference between being caught from behind and scoring the touchdown.
Our CSCS-certified coaches have trained athletes who went on to compete at the Division I level and beyond. Every drill is purposeful. We don’t run athletes into the ground with endless sprints—we teach them to run smarter, more efficiently, and with explosive intent on every rep.
We begin with a full sprint assessment: to evaluate acceleration, max velocity, and multi-directional speed. From there, we build a personalized speed development plan that targets each athlete’s specific mechanical breakdowns and performance goals.
Our Approach
Sessions focus on one or two mechanical cues at a time—posture, arm drive, ground contact, shin angles—so athletes can internalize changes before adding complexity. As mechanics improve, we layer in resisted and assisted sprinting, reactive starts, and sport-specific speed patterns.

// Training Methods
What You'll Train
Sprint Mechanics Analysis
Breakdown of start, drive, and top-end phases to identify specific mechanical inefficiencies.
Acceleration Development
Wall drills, sled pushes, and resisted sprints that build explosive first-step power and drive-phase body angles.
Top-End Velocity
Flying sprints, wicket runs, and overspeed training to increase stride frequency and reduce ground contact time.
Change of Direction
Lateral shuffle progressions, crossover runs, and reactive agility drills that transfer directly to game situations.
Reactive Speed & Starts
Auditory and visual stimulus drills that sharpen reaction time and translate to real game-speed decisions.
Speed Endurance
Repeat sprint protocols that maintain top-end mechanics under fatigue—the differentiator in the 4th quarter.

// Speed Training Questions
FAQ
Absolutely. Our speed training is bodyweight-based for younger athletes (ages 8–12) and focuses on teaching proper running mechanics. Every progression is earned, and our CSCS-certified coaches monitor form on every repetition.
We use a combination of laser timing systems, resistance sleds, bands, and chains, and high speed treadmills. Our facility includes professional-grade turf specifically designed for sprint work.
Team practices focus on sport skills and conditioning. Our speed training isolates the biomechanics of sprinting and addresses individual mechanical breakdowns. A coach managing 30+ athletes at practice cannot provide the individualized analysis and cueing that our 8:1 athlete-to-coach ratio delivers.
